That was the week that wasn’t

Wasn’t much for  blogging, though I certainly did cook and eat.

After School Snack Friday – sweetened iced coffee with cream & nuts & cherry tomatoes

On Wednesday, I did a small private dinner – that’s what the tomato tarts were for. It was a nice group. A woman I know through work organized it – she works with instructional technology on campus.  It was her and her girlfriend, and 2 of her three grown-up sons, the oldest and the middle, who were in town, two couples, one gay, one straight, and a couple additional women who arrived solo. The age range was probably 25 – 60. Here’s the menu:

Tomato tarts with fresh mozzarella & herbs
Green salad with balsamic vinaigrette
Whole wheat baguettes with butter
Lemon chicken breasts, cold sesame noodles (made with gluten free brown rice pasta), and slow-cooked zucchini with feta
Flourless chocolate cake
Dad’s day cake
Fresh berries & whipped cream
Coffee

I put out some olives & nuts & cheese & crackers when they arrived – the same nuts I was snacking on Friday, tamari almonds & salted cashews & honey roasted peanuts. I also made a gallon of red iced tea – passion & pomegranate teas, with white grape juice.

Half a Tomato tart

On Thursday it was Willy Street’s annual meeting and party – something like 6,000 people for dinner and the Fête de Marquette. I’m on the Board of the co-op, and I’m running for reelection so I had to show up. I thought I was going to have to give a vote-for-me speech, but we turned out to have 14 candidates, so no time – I posted my remarks, instead. So, even though I didn’t have to talk (after stressing about it all day), I was out in the sun for a couple of hours and I had a beer, and then I biked back over to E. Wash – one of the private dinner party guests, the cute grown-up middle son of the woman who arranged the dinner, thought he might’ve left his cell phone – so I biked a lot and didn’t eat until 8:30 or so. I made myself the sandwich of my youth – peanut butter, mayonnaise and cheese with sweet pickles – on leftover whole wheat baguette. After I ate, I got a terrible headache – which I attributed to stress and sun – except I have the same damn headache right now, and I haven’t been exposed to any of the other factors – it’s just a humid day. Shit.
