Spring ahead

Today’s the no-fun time change, when we lose an hour, and, even though it may be staying lighter later in the evening, it’s darker in the morning. To make it even better, it’s a dreary, rainy, wet day – all the snow is melting and the basement is leaking in three places. I should feel […]

Feeding the kids without shopping

Much. John’s been here since Monday night, awaiting his surgery for his new ankle. I can’t quite remember the order of everything – one night I made the kale potato gratin, and somehow we didn’t eat until 8:00. I’m sure it was a little too kale-y, greens-y for Mark. I test-drove my new mandoline, and […]

John’s new ankle

So we’re in the recovery room after John’s surgery to fix the break in his ankle. Even laid up in bed, his photo of the photo of the pins in his leg is better than mine. Can’t wait to take him home.

And now it’s Saturday

I’m waiting at the vet to see if the white cat’s hundreds of $$ of treatments & meds worked. Evidently I am getting yet one more thing – a $30 squirt bottle of ear cleaning fluid – to torment her with when I go home. Sigh. John’s broken ankle still has been cheaper than the […]

From Sunday to Sunday

Trying to remember my week. Monday I worked at home, and spent a lot of time going back & forth between my desktop computer – for personal stuff – and my laptop – for work stuff – and being hopelessly intermingled most of the time. I took a break and did a little grocery […]

Miracle of Minnesota Nice

I’m in Minneapolis to take Al to probably the 2nd to last of his appointments to fill in his full sleeve. We’re staying at the Aloft Hotel again, (tho we didn’t have as magic a room no. and I couldn’t get the room heat to go on – it was 66° and dropped to 62 […]

Overnighter in Minneapolis

So, like I said, we spent Saturday night in Minneapolis. Ethan wanted to meet up with his friends and go to the Gopher hockey game, so it was just me & Mark for dinner. We ended up at a brewpub called Republic. We were on the early side, so we could make our 7:30 play […]

Happy Birthday, Dad

Dec. 28th, 2012 is my Dad’s 92nd birthday. We didn’t do anything particularly special in his honor, but I remembered him a lot. In the morning, I worked on the two online courses that I’ll be teaching in the spring semester – classes don’t start until Jan. 22, but I have to have my syllabi […]

Boxing Day

I literally sorted and boxed up the excess papers on my desk – the piles had gotten really embarrassing, sliding off and messy. Our recycle bins are too full, post-party and post-blizzard, though, so the box of old papers is going to have to wait until the next pickup, after the one tomorrow, it’s […]

It’s official

Cookie season has begun, although it seemed like in fits and starts over the weekend. Because we had Black Friday Thanksgiving, on Thursday, I made the fruitcake gems and Simnel cake. Friday was devoted to Thanksgiving cooking, although I did bake the turkey cookies and thought the were a really good batch this year. On […]
