Steppin’ out Friday night

I’m going to an event at the Wisconsin Historical Museum, to celebrate a show that Dave Benton of Spooner helped to curate, about the Madison music scene in the 1980s and ’90s. Of which I think I was part – I did a radio show on WORT, and I was married to the owner of a record store that went out of business, and he became a manager at Rose Records, a venerable Chicago chain, that opened a store in Madison and which is also now defunct. Anyways, Slatewood was downstairs from Merlyns & sold tickets for the club, and the bands came in for in stores – signing stuff & occasionally played a few tunes. And I sure went to a lot of shows back then, especially Spooner shows.

So I came home from work, and spent about 20 minutes making the all-important decison of what t-shirt to wear. I thought about the Rose shirt.

And also about the Residents shirt.

But in the end I went with a plain black T with a Survival Graphics button – the handiwork of Mike Tincher, who also did a couple of Spooner album covers.

So goddamn Bucky Pope – he had the Tardozer supergroup that played, with members of the Appliances SFB, Tarbabies, and Killdozer, open with Sister Christain and now that’s stuck in my head …. Motorin’
