Friday supper / Saturday breakfast

Last night we just hung around and watched the Olympics Opening Ceremony. My favorite Olympic image is the rings hanging down from Tower Bridge; I have it as wallpaper in my phone. But it wasn’t part of the spectacle.

Mark got Pasquals; I made myself a cutting board of bread and cheese and tomatoes and salami and olives and peppadews. I had a glass of French red wine with my snacks – a bottle selected from my stash of miscellaneous wines that people brought to the cookie party. I got so much this year that all the bottle don’t fit in the sideboard in the dining room and there’s an overflow area, an old CD rack that John or Al stopped using and now it’s in the basement, perfect for a wine rack. Al I think. I went with French because I thought the Brits would be more likely to drink French wine than Californian.

And I finally made a cherry dessert I liked – cherry slump. I used this blueberry pudding cake recipefrom Gourmet, and just subbed in 10 oz. of the Door County sour cherries we got last week at the farmers market. I had a little piece for breakfast, too, the recipe says “Makes 6 to 8 breakfast or dessert servings“, along with more of the same bread & cheese from last night topped with tomatoes and banana with peanut butter on the side.

I think I’ll have to make what Mark calls a garbage pie – all mixed up types of fruit – tomorrow. I still have about a cup of pitted cherries, peaches that are starting to smell ripe, and 3 old apples in the fridge.
