{"id":4880,"date":"2012-03-17T10:28:32","date_gmt":"2012-03-17T15:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/debslunch.com\/debslunchblog\/?p=4880"},"modified":"2014-03-16T22:57:34","modified_gmt":"2014-03-17T03:57:34","slug":"pent-up-demand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/debslunch.com\/debslunchblog\/pent-up-demand\/","title":{"rendered":"Pent up demand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since the <a href=\"http:\/\/schoolwoods.com\/2012\/02\/10\/winter-2012-one-dish-dinners\/\">winter dinners at School Woods<\/a> have not been selling &#8211; no winter &#8211; and because <a href=\"http:\/\/iainmachell.com\/home.html\">her fianc\u00e9<\/a> is in town, Rach and I hijacked one of the dates, and threw a cocktail party. There was a really nice crowd, somewheres above 30 people plus a lot of little kids toddling and crawling and being jiggled on hips. We think that the continuing warm weather revealed a pent up demand for a party. For us older folks who do not necessarily go <a href=\"https:\/\/debslunch.com\/debslunchblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/undergradsbascom313-400x300.jpg\">lolling on Bascom Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the menu:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Corn &amp; black bean salsa w\/ corn chips [sour cream on the side!]<\/li>\n<li>Shrimp &amp; cocktail sauce<\/li>\n<li>Asian Beef &amp; lettuce wraps w\/ spicey peanut sauce<\/li>\n<li>No-cheese bacon dates &#8211; stuffed with h20 chestnuts<\/li>\n<li>Vegetables &amp; brok hummus<\/li>\n<li>Sausage &amp; cheese plate<a href=\"#note\">*<\/a> &#8211; the state dish of WI. John sliced up enough cheese &amp; salami to fill the plate and it got all eaten; I refilled and it was 3\/4 eaten<\/li>\n<li>Goat cheese topped with sun dried tomato pesto, served with baguette slices<\/li>\n<li>Crab Rangoon dip with crackers<\/li>\n<li>Deviled eggs<\/li>\n<li>Big fruit platter &#8211; that turned into a plate of strawberries with the brownies, and a platter of grapes, orange wedges, and Asian pear<\/li>\n<li>Gluten free &amp; dairy free brownies<\/li>\n<li>Nuts &amp; olives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Since my <a href=\"http:\/\/johnlusisphoto.tumblr.com\/\">professional photographer #1 son<\/a> is in town, I had him take the pictures &#8211; they&#8217;ll be coming along soon.<\/p>\n<p>My <a href=\"http:\/\/debslunch.com\/recipes\/brownies.html\">standard brownie<\/a> recipe worked great in the gluten-free and dairy-free versions. I couldn&#8217;t decide if I liked the gluten-free or the non dairy better &#8211; the gluten-free were made with butter and I frosted them with <a href=\"https:\/\/debslunch.com\/debslunchblog\/2010\/10\/09\/who-knew\/\">perfect chocolate<\/a> frosting, again butter, so they had the whole butter &amp; chocolate thing going on. The dairy free ones, made with oil, were intensely chocolaty. My recipe&#8217;s got twice as much cocoa &amp; sugar &amp; chocolate chips as flour, so it figures it&#8217;d do well in these variations &#8211; since the flour is outnumbered, doesn&#8217;t matter if it&#8217;s real flour or gluten free baking mix. And if you use good cocoa and chocolate chips, then even the butter won&#8217;t be missed.<br \/>\n<a name=\"note\"><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>*I haven&#8217;t looked this up, but I have been told that there is a state statute that says that a government official may accept a gift of a sausage &amp; cheese plate, and it is NOT considered lobbying.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<script>\/* <![CDATA[ *\/
