The recipe for this week &#8211; October 29 &#8211; was Marie-Helene&#8217;s apple cake. I made two of them for a Saturday morning brunch, for a 30th wedding anniversary. My cakes were a little too thin, because I used a 9-inch springform &#8211; and a 9-inch cake pan with a loose bottom from a tart pan stuck inside for cake #2 &#8211; how dumb of me not to use an 8-inch for that one &#8230; I cut the two cakes into 16 slices, and both were devoured, with only 4 slices leftover, by 14 people, along with 3\/4 of a large handsome carrot cake.<br \/>\n<script>\/*
