Pre-Halloween Brunch

Lots of pumpkin and orange fall-y foods – Autumn vegetable hash with eggs baked on top, squash challah – but the hits of the day were the bacon & cheese pull-apart bread, and the pumpkin sticky pudding. I got the bacon bread recipe from taste of home – but instead of using purchased bread dough, […]

A latke by any other name …

… is still a latke. Here’re the photos – we had potato-carrot pancakes with sour cream, raspberry sauce, & baked apples; vegetarian or pork sausage links; eggs; challah for toast; and apple-filled cimmy buns and honey-walnut topped cimmy buns.

Tempus fugit

And speaking of how time flies …. Yesterday was the going-away party for one of my librarian friends. He’s moving back east – he’s also from Pittsburgh – to work at Longwood Gardens, a botanical park in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, built with DuPont money. I’m starting to worry that it’s the beginning of an exodus; […]

Mother’s day

After all the hullabaloo of the wedding (more on that in a minute) we had a nice quiet mother’s day brunch at home, using up some of the wedding leftovers: Broccoli & cheddar quiche – remember I did over buy on broccoli, and the nice 2-lb blocks of Tillamook cheddar that you can get at […]

327 Brunch

To coincide with my baby brother’s 54th birthday, I cooked a brunch yesterday. There was a good crowd, 20 people, including a three-generations group celebrating mom/grandma’s birthday. I’d love to stick around, but gotta go fold all the napkins, before they get too wrinkled lying in the bottom of the dryer.

Brunch just for us

Every so often I start feeling a little guilty because I do all my cooking for the dining club, and make my family eat leftovers. Not too terribly guilty because the leftovers are pretty damn high quality, but still a twinge or two. So today I made cinnamon rolls just for us, and we ate […]

Brunch for the ladies

Sunday I made brunch for a group of Hospice Care workers – it was their holiday party. I’d put on a baby shower for this group in the spring, and they’re really fun – completely unflappable. This time, they ate spinach quiche and ham quiche – the base of the filling for the spinach was […]

New Year’s Day

New year’s day is always kind of a different day, and this year it’s a Saturday that feels like a Sunday. Al came in confused saying he couldn’t get the Packer game on the car radio while he was driving back from Chicago; he thought it was because all the stations were playing the Badger […]

October 3 brunch

The idea was French toast & sausage and some kind of potatoes. I was going to make a kale and potato gratin, from Deborah Madison’s Savory Way, but I got lots of good poblanos at the farmers market Saturday, so I made potato poblano gratin instead (which I have served for brunch before). The recipe’s […]
