Julia Child’s birthday is August 15th, which was a Saturday this year, so that seemed like as good a reason as any to have my birthday dinner that night, even though my real birthday was the Tuesday before. Julia turned 103 – I’m a lot younger, I just feel like 103 sometimes. We had […]

So we went off to Seattle, where it was 45° and rainy, leaving Wisconsin, where it was in the 30s and snowy. Over the course of the 4 days we were away, it warmed up and iced in WI, but the most drastic changes have been last night and today. It was 50° and pouring […]

This year we had our Thanksgiving on Black Friday instead of Thursday. It was a little weird; feeling out of sync with the rest of the world – I went for a walk on Friday while the bird was in the oven – as I often do on the Thursday – and I knew that […]
So my bro says he’s shutting down 327Words, but will continue his regular Thursday/Friday reports about riding with the bike gang …. I guess he’s been mirroring the two blogs for awhile, I just didn’t know because I only looked at the 327 side. He says there’s gonna be a book, but I can’t tell […]
I didn’t finish cleaning up till 11:22. Rach put together a group so we had like 20 people. It was an easy menu, everything made in advance – roasted the chicken in the a.m. when it was cool. I only had to turn the stove on to grill the polenta. Which, by the way I […]

Watched the Game of Thrones I’d been too sleepy to really see on Sunday. And then this morning at 7:00 a.m. […]

We’ve always differentiated between being busy – which isn’t neccesarily bad – your days are full, you have lots to do, you’re not bored – and stupid busy – which IS bad. Too much to do, you forget stuff, you miss stuff, you get cranky. And stupid. I have been stupid busy for the last […]
To coincide with my baby brother’s 54th birthday, I cooked a brunch yesterday. There was a good crowd, 20 people, including a three-generations group celebrating mom/grandma’s birthday. I’d love to stick around, but gotta go fold all the napkins, before they get too wrinkled lying in the bottom of the dryer.
Last week, in addition to my brother’s weekly post about the hijinks (in their own words “Bikes, beer can baseball with a U lock, random nutsacking, free beer, another perfect night.”) he and his bike gang get up to every Thursday night, my brother wrote about FHR – the Fucking Hills Race, a Sunday afternoon, […]
