Dec. 28th, 2012 is my Dad’s 92nd birthday. We didn’t do anything particularly special in his honor, but I remembered him a lot. In the morning, I worked on the two online courses that I’ll be teaching in the spring semester – classes don’t start until Jan. 22, but I have to have my syllabi […]

I’m putting the finishing touches on this post on Halloween Wednesday, and I still am not quite recovered. When we got back from the librarian’s conference on Thursday, I baked a giant chocolate cake for Susan’s Dad’s 90th. I decided to substitute 7-minute frosting for the whipped cream filling – that’s the kind that’s whipped […]

Yesterday the Farmer’s market was so gorgeous – it made you want to buy everything and start squirreling away stuff for winter. There’re still some summer crops like melon and tomatoes and corn, and fresh second growths of the herbs and greens that were looking wilted in the heat just a week ago. And the […]

Still with the peaches, and the blue bowl cereal bowl I bought from King Arthur Flour, that I like to use for ice cream or oatmeal or yogurt and granola.

Mark’s birthday morning – we got up about 8:00 and rode the cabin bikes – way too big for both of us – over to the coffee place, Red Cup. Kinda assumed they’d have wifi, but no. So now we’re hanging out in front of the public library using theirs. I tried calling both kids […]
Today would be my parents 60th wedding anniversary if either of them was still around. They didn’t make 50 years, even, since my Dad died a couple of months after their 47th anniversary in 1998. I liked it when Clinton was president and my parents were alive because I’d usually hear on the news one […]

I had a nice little day after birthday party last night, but I took no pictures at all. I meant to … Even though I’ve always been a birthday pie kinda girl – as is my entire family, boys and girls and even the married-ins – I wanted cake this year, so I baked myself […]
To coincide with my baby brother’s 54th birthday, I cooked a brunch yesterday. There was a good crowd, 20 people, including a three-generations group celebrating mom/grandma’s birthday. I’d love to stick around, but gotta go fold all the napkins, before they get too wrinkled lying in the bottom of the dryer.

When I was a kid, the family tradition was that the big parties with lots of kids and presents and cake and laser tag and video games stopped when you were 11 or 12, and after that everyone in the family got the same thing: dinner and a movie – a grown-up birthday. This year, […]
On Saturday, I put on a cupcake decorating 8-year old’s birthday party, with eight little girls. And me and one nanny and the birthday girl’s mom & dad. It was a lot of fun. I made a double batch of yellow cupcakes – it was the batter that ate New York – it should have […]
