And it’s still September. Not a very Wisconsinite thing to do, but our exchange student has been complaining of the cold, and upstairs, Mark turned his on already. The thermostat was in sleep mode, set at 62° and it was still 65° in the house, so I had to bump it up to 66° just to get it to come on. Really not Wisconsin.
I worked at home Friday because it was dishwasher delivery day. Which meant I had time to mix up some bread. It’s sort of the King Arthur Flour Ancient Grains Bread, but I just used whole wheat flour and unbleached white with seeds – I didn’t have any amaranth, millet, quinoa, or sorghum flours, which is what’s in their ancient grains flour blend. I did put in orange juice as the recipe said – I know ascorbic acid is supposed to do good things with helping the yeast rise, and in this case it worked.
I ate some of it with Jarlsberg cheese and the roasted tomatoes (these are from 2011, but this year’s looked similar) I made last weekend for after-yoga breakfast on Saturday.
Then I biked over to Goodman to see the new Brassworks – they’ve just about doubled the space. The food pantry, where I volunteer, is still in the old part, but there’s more room for us now that so much moved next door, it’s just a bit of an open question as yet as to where we’ll be cooking and turning out.
When I got back I made a big dinner – pork chops – some of the last of last year’s pig – and applesauce and cheesy potatoes (homemade, no frozen hash browns or cream of mushroom soup) and salad.
So I guess it’s time to go run the new dishwasher, and see how quiet it is.
