Somehow we didn’t get around to doing a lot of things we usually do at Christmas.
We never brought down the lite brite tree.
and 2017
We didn’t have lights on the front porch, so here’re some animated ones.
We went to Al & Emma & Jasper’s on Christmas day for Chinese take out for dinner so I didn’t make Christmas dinner.
And we went to Debbie & Walter’s Christmas Eve caroling party so I didn’t make home made pizza for us to eat while watching Love Actually. Although we did come home from the party and heat up leftover pizza from a few nights before to eat while watching Love Actually.
We did have cimmy buns for breakfast on Christmas.
And of course, plenty of cookies.
And still New Year’s to look forward to, although I know we won’t be having people over for brunch as we often do. At first that was because we have Jasper for part of the day, and now it’s double off the table because of my Boxing Day broken wrist. I’m wondering if I should make black-eyed peas. Mark doesn’t really like them and they didn’t really bring us much luck in 2024. But maybe it would’ve been even worse without the peas! So I’ll probably still make a small dish of hoppin’ John. Today I put a plastic bag over my hand and chopped a tomato, so I think I can chop the celery and onions for hoppin’ John.
We stopped at Ancora after walking to Target to buy me some of those awful dental floss pics that never degrade and you see them lying on the sidewalk. But it was the only way I could think of to floss my teeth one-handed and I’m not going 6 weeks without flossing!
And we did have a white Christmas, although it got warm and rained and now it’s just mud.
We celebrated our anniversary at Graze and we ate several nice things but the Raclette potatoes were the best.
It was a really rainy night.
And we did do an overnighter in Chicago for Christmas, another tradition. We had dinner with John & Megan at Daisies, and lunch with our retired archivist and librarian friends and took them cookies. Because I had a giant bag of cookies to lug, the day before we left, I mailed John and Megan a box with some other gifts (they came to the cookie party and got all the cookies they wanted then) and I typed their address one digit off, and first the post office said they’d return it to me because the address didn’t exist, then the next day they said it was delivered. I filed a claim but who knows. I sent the kids a Crate & Barrel gift certificate, too, since they’re furnishing their new house, so at least they got that. The stuff in the lost box was house stuff too.
Disappointing Macy’s windows – they’ve never been as good as Marshall Fields. And see overleaf for the Chicago tree in Millennium Park.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, and to all a good night!
