In this week since Mothers Day, there’s been some good stuff. Let’s talks about that instead of whining (whinging in British) on about all my sinus pain and and knee pain and worry and fatigue.
I cooked a few good things, like Hetty McKinnon’s peanut noodles, now also featured in the banner. These I actually made before Mother’s Day.
Also before Mothers Day, I made enchiladas with turkey chorizo and ranchero sauce and I wrote up the recipe. I made a little bit of quick salsa with tomatoes and bottled jalapenos and cilantro that I think it was the rest of the bunch of cilantro I bought for the peanut noddles.
After Mothers Day:
He’s actually here today, too, but we’re having a bit of a tough day. He just doesn’t want to be confined in anything, like car seats or strollers, or be carried if he wants to walk, or run! in the other direction. I think I’m going to be the bad other grandma, since I took him to gymnastic class – Emma’s mom usually takes him – and he got away from me and ran into the parking lot. I think he thought he was running to Emma’s car, since there was a big black SUV out there.
Speaking of recipes I’m working on peanut chocolate chip bars. Mark gave me a fancy ceramic baking pan that’s the size of a jelly roll pan, 10 x 15.
Al and Emma and Jasper came for brunch Sunday, sorta belated Mothers Day, sorta a chance to eat in the screen porch. Everything was finger food.
And I know I owe you improved rhubarb scones, and I think hot cross buns, too. But that’s going to be another time.
And now that it’s warm, we’re trying to blend the cats – see overleaf. It’s going OK, but it’s a little unnerving,
Finally, our local public radio affiliate, WPR, is reorganizing. They used to have a news & music network (and an Ideas network that was more talk, but I rarely listened to it), and now they’re splitting into one network for news and another for music. I started this post Sunday night listening to Steve Gotcher hosting the last live Simply Folk on the old news & music network. Steve made a joke about the Milk Carton Kids cover of Wish You Were Here that it was an old, old folk song and he had not been able to find anything out about the source. When I texted him a few minutes later to tell him I noticed, he said no one else had. I almost finished the post on Monday night listening to some of the new news programming until Fresh Air came on at its new time, 8:00PM. Tonya Mosely interviewing Michael McDonald, because he has a new memoir. Not sure I’m going to listen to Fresh Air as much at the later time.
Finishing this post with the radio off and Jasper napping. Maybe I’ll even write a a bit of those recipes!
