I carved a pumpkin with a mask on.
We put out bags of candy, with a peppermint patty, a snickers, and a peanut butter cup in each one. I made 10 bags, and only 2 got taken so I brought the rest in on Sunday morning.
We had a zoom Halloween party with the kids, and then we ate leftover chicken enchilada casserole, and leftover chicken lasagna, and a big salad.
We ate peanut butter chocolate double-decker brownies for dessert. I tried to make these at the beginning of the pandemic and they came out like soup. This time they were nicely gooey on the middle, and crusty on the edges. I waited until Sunday morning and then packed them into a container.

Also Sunday morning, I made home made cheesy potatoes, with grated parboiled potatoes; a sauce made from turkey broth, roux, mushroom soup base, and a bit of cream, in lieu of canned soup; all the regular ingredients – onion, cheddar cheese, butter; and buttered corn muffin crumbs on top (in lieu of buttered cornflakes).
I made apple-cranberry turnovers for our dessert while TV-watching Sunday dinner.
So I made it through the weekend to election day, and now I’m home from working the morning shift at the polls (which is another story, next post), showered and changed. I ate the last turnover for what seemed like a self indulgent and deserved breakfast at 2:30:
The last turnover, squash hummus and pretzel sticks, an apple with peanut butter, and a big cup of milky coffee. I tried to photograph the turnover but it kept looking like a chicken leg, so I gave up.
And I think I’m losing my hair.
