How does that go again? Something like,
I texted my kids and they haven’t replied, do do do wah wah,
Are they OK? oooh, aaah,
Is my sense of smell going? My chest hurts, maybe I’ve got it oooh lala,
Took the trash out, brought the newspapers in, bleach wiped everything again, washed my hands again, do do run run,
What’s that noise, an accident, a riot? no, neighbors talking in the street, extra loud to stay six feet apart,
Chorus – wash your hands, soap & water, rub a dub, wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands.
Not sure what the melody is, to go with these words.
And the added aggravation of working from home, continual online meetings & masses of email.
What I’ve been saying is that every work day is now like the days when I went to work, saying I’d do email for an hour, and after 3 hours, chasing down 15 rabbit holes, still not done, and nowhere near done doing all the things I thought I’d do after the email.
Here are some of the things I’ve been cooking.
Sunday we had waffles and bacon for breakfast, and snacks: caramelized onion dip, with pretzels and chips and veggies, and cookies and ice cream for dinner.
Monday was pandemic risotto, salmon, and salad.
We ventured out for groceries in between my phone calls and online meetings.
We had a big salad dinner, the Fine Cooking black rice and pistachio and dried cherry salad on top of greens and there was hard boiled egg and leftover salmon to throw on top, and strawberry vinaigrette. And some strawberries on the side – Mark bought strawberries on our grocery outing; I wouldn’t have bought them, not organic and not in season, but they were kind of a treat.
Wednesday we didn’t have an organized dinner; we snacked and then had cake for dessert (see above) at 8:00 after my class. I used my strained, but still too runny homemade yogurt to make Clotilde’s yogurt cake (Gâteau au yaourt).
I was going to eat the last of that good risotto, while I baked the cake and listened to Robyn Hitchcock and Emma Swift from their living room in Nashville (more on that in a minute), but I started with some of the black rice salad and then risotto didn’t seem like the best 2nd course – so I had some of the long rise bread I made last week, toasted, and with butter and fenugreek gouda and honey. Then class and then cake!
It was a little tricky to get the show up and running – the platform they’re using, Stageit, uses Flash, plus it kept telling me I needed a ticket which I had bought in advance. It’s a benefit for musicians in Nashville impacted by first the tornado and now Covid-19. Then when I got it running it kept freezing. Turned out the best way to listen was to play it on my phone, using an alternate browser, not Safari. It was fun in the end – especially Briggs. They say they’re doing it again next week, so I will tune in again.
Johnny got his camera fixed.
Tonight we’re going to have chicken and mashed potatoes and peas with pearl onions & mushrooms. I’m in my last meeting of the day – at 4:31 – and I’m going to put the chicken in the oven and go walk.
Our neighbors got a puppy – she’s the overleaf, Sophia.
I guess that’s it for now.
