So here I am at another library conference, where I’m sitting in meetings with people talking about metadata before 9:00AM in the morning. Fortunately, I think the fashion for showing screens of code with pointy brackets is fading; instead they’re showing slides with lists of all kinds of technology and environments used to create the metadata and get it on the Web, and they’re all acronyms or sound kind of scary – JSON-LD, RDF/XML, angular.js, Hydra, turtle serialization.
The thing that’s made this conference a little different is for one thing, it started on inauguration day. For another thing, the Saturday of conference is the orange squash’s first day in office, coinciding with thousands of people marching for women’s and human’s rights around the world.
I just looked up some of the the numbers:
Washington DC – half a million
Chicago IL – 150,000
Madison WI – 75,000+
Atlanta – where I am, wearing my hat at conference, but not marching – 60,000+
