So I just kept hauling stuff out of the freezer, and making it into dinner.
Like I said, Friday we had pasta.
On Saturday we had pork roast and stuffing. The stuffing had cranberries and apple. I mixed up the usual stuffing stuff, dried bread and celery and onion and chestnuts and fresh sage, and it seemed to need something sweet, so I threw in the fruits. The pork had garlic and sage and crushed allspice rubbed over it. I put it all into the oven on timer and we walked to Sundance to see the Lady In the Van – which I liked a lot. I had a glass of wine at the movie – because I just wanted one, and also because I felt like I needed some kind of demarcation of the day, that I was finished working. After dinner, I watched an old Downton, Season 2 finale, and had a glass or two more – which I felt in the morning, as Matthew said, “there’ll be a few thick heads in the morning.”
On Sunday we had leek tart and fruit and sausages and bacon and salad for breakfast. I made date bars and tea sandwiches (sanwidges: curried chicken and banana bread with cream cheese) for the last-ever Downton Abbey – but the tea sanwidges weren’t very photogenic so no pics.
I’m all on my own tonight – Megan and Mark are both in Chicago. It’s thunder storming, which is especially unnerving after watching the last scenes of Downton in the snow and Auld Lang Syne.
