Hootie Swirls – peanut butter chocolate brownies

Hootie Swirls
From a ’90s website called A Musical Feast with recipes donated by various bands. These brownies are from the mom of one of the members of Hootie and the Blowfish – hence the name. I can’t find the website, but looks like it became a book.

1/3 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup peanut butter
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
12 oz. chocolate chips – about 2 cups

Heat oven to 350 °
Grease a 13 x 9 in. baking pan
Beat together the butter, peanut butter and sugars – easiest with an electric mixer
Beat in eggs and vanilla
Measure in the baking powder and salt and mix lightly
Add the flour and then the chocolate chips and mix well
Spread into the greased baking pan and put in the oven for 5 minutes
Use a knife to swirl the chocolate
Return to oven and bake 15 – 20 minutes more. Do not over bake. They’ll be evenly puffed and shrinking from the edges just a bit – but still a little gooey in the middle
